Rockets Win Homecoming
by Braden Geer
The Rockets hosted the El Dorado Wildcats on the Rocket’s Homecoming night. The Rockets found themselves down 7-0 halfway through the second quarter. However, they were determined to win and answered El Dorado’s score in just three plays as Travis Jones snuck out of the backfield and scored on a 58-yard pass from Nolan Ast. As both teams entered the fourth quarter the score was still tied at 7-7. Dylan Sapp broke a tackle and scored on a 64 yard pass from Ast, leaving the score 14-7. Eldorado answered the next drive making the score tied at 14 all. With less than 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Rockets again answered the Wildcats score, this time in just one play, as Jones broke loose on a 68-yard run to give the Rockets a 21-14 lead. There was still enough time for El Dorado to again tie the score but the Rockets defense did their job, stopping the Wildcats on a 4th down pass deep in Rocket territory to secure the win. The Rockets will now prepare to travel to 4A power McPherson on Friday.

Andover Champions
by Braden Geer
The Rockets traveled to Andover on Saturday for a tournament that they knew would test them, as there were several quality teams. The ladies cruised through pool play by defeating Andover Central, Wichita Southeast, Wichita Northwest, and Andover, each in two sets. The Rockets faced a very good Pittsburgh team in the semifinals and had a battle on their hands. They lost the first set 25-27 but came back to take the second set 25-20 to force a third set. The girls found themselves down 17-24 and facing their first defeat of the season but the girls stormed back to win 26-24! They then faced Andover again for the championship. The Trojans played the Rockets tough taking the first set 26-28 but the Lady Rockets then recovered to win the second set 25-13 to force a third set. The Lady Rockets fought hard in the third set and came out on top, again with 25-13 score, to win the Andover Invitational Championship. The Rockets are now 26-0 in defense of last year’s State Championship. The Ladies will next host Wellington and Andale on Tuesday as they attempt to continue their undefeated season.
