Two Game Win Streak
by Owen Kimbell
The Girls Basketball team traveled to Winfield on Tuesday to take on the Vikings. Emily Adler led the team in scoring with 16 followed by Drew Glennemeier with 14 points. At the end of the 1st quarter, the Rockets were down 11-15. In the Second quarter, the Girls sharpened up their defense and went on a 10-1 run. Coach Welch said, “Our pressure defense forced some turnovers and took Winfield out of their offense; that was a positive. The negative was in our pressure defense we fouled too much and allowed Winfield to shoot 36 free throws. If we keep them off the free throw line, the game isn’t close. We were able to keep our composure late though and hold on to the victory. Going forward we have to do a better job of playing defense with our feet and not our hands.” The girls won the game 51-46 and will play Mulvane at for the Winter Homecoming game on Friday.
Tough Ending For Boys
by Braden Geer
Last night the Rockets traveled to Winfield to take on the Vikings. The Rockets played hard despite overwhelming adversity. The starting five for the Rockets were missing 2 key players, both out with injuries. However, several players stepped up and showed grit and determination as they filled a new role on a new level. Coach Shirley commented saying, “ We got off to a slow start and felt like we were playing uphill the entire game. Our guys made gutsy plays to take the lead late in the 4th   quarter, but could not come out on top. Playing without Dylan Sapp (13 ppg) or Dalton Rapp (12 ppg), two kids who we have counted on most of the season, was difficult but I am extremely proud of how the kids stepped up and made plays to put us in a situation to win.” The Rockets are currently sitting at an 8-7 record; to get a winning record the boys must win 3 of the 5 remaining games. The Rockets show great heart and determination on and off the court. The Rockets play Mulvane on Friday for the Rockets Homecoming game.
