Ladies Put Up 7th Straight Win by Braden Geer The Lady Rockets balled out last Friday against the Spartans. The girls dominated the Lady Spartans in every aspect of the game. Offensively, the Lady Rockets outscored them by 23 points and dominated them quarter by quarter. Senior Emily Adler put up 18 followed by Myers with 11; combining for 29 points they were just shy of outscoring the Lady Spartans all together. Defensively, the Lady Rockets played solid to give themselves a considerable lead. At the end of the game the Lady Rockets were able to get several young kids a few minutes of exposure to the varsity level. On Tuesday they will also travel to Andale to play the Lady Indians.
Just Short of First by Grant Scheer
The Rocket Wrestling Team put on a show in Augusta on Saturday. They only had 10 wrestlers while Ulysses, the team that took first, had 14. This tournament is normally a tough one due to the fact that the team has been on Christmas break. Even with the time off, however, that did not slow down the Rockets from dominating on the mat. The team wrestled pretty well throughout the day as they had five guys in the finals. Kyle Sackett, David Leck, Grant Scheer, and Devin McMains all took first. Michael Diaz was also in the finals but came up short of first by losing 5-3. Charlie Black, Peyton Besco, and Clayton Epley fought back and finished 3rd on the day. This was a great way to start the final stretch of the season. They will host Andale for the League Title on the line Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
Boys Suffer Second Loss by Braden Geer Friday marked the first sporting event of 2019. The Rocket basketball programs hosted the Collegiate Spartans for a home game to kick off 2019. The boys practiced hard over the break and they looked forward to seeing how their work had paid off. The boys started off strong outscoring the Spartans by 2 points in the first quarter; from there on out the Rockets failed to make free throws and put together an offense. The Rockets fell victim to a series of fouls that resulted in dominant seniors Dalton Rapp and Konner Barron fouling out in the fourth quarter. The game did boast some shiny moments as Junior Koby Campbell put up 28 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double. On Tuesday, the Rockets will travel to Andale to play the Indians.
Swimming Comes Back Strong by Grant Scheer
After a long break, the Boys Swimming Team did pretty well in their first meet back. They placed 4th out of six highly talented teams. The boy’s strongest relay is the 200-yard medley as they’ve done very well at every meet. They placed 5th falling just short of 4th by two seconds. Hayden Kalp placed 6th in the boys 100-yard freestyle. The team will keep improving and look to get their times down before state. Their next meet will be on January 10th at Winfield.
