Rockets Run Hard At State

On Saturday, freshmen runners Kyrsten Lucent and Elliot Herod traveled to Wamego to compete in the Kansas State Cross Country Meet. Lucent was coming off of a first place finish at Regionals. Both girls ran hard with lots of Rocket supporters there cheering them both on. Herod would finish in 55th place with a time of 22:36.95. Lucent finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:57.89, only three places shy of medaling. The state meet concludes the runner’s season. It was a record breaking and extremely impressive year for the freshmen duo of Lucent and Herod and Coach Barger is excited about their potiential the next three seasons.

Heartbreaking End For Soccer

On Thursday the Rocket soccer team traveled to Buhler for the Regional Championship game, with winning being a ticket to go to the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. The Rockets would get a penalty kick in the 28th minute, where Caden Dinkel would put it in to give the Rockets an early 1-0 lead. They would hold on to that lead until halftime. However, early in the second half Buhler would score tieing the game 1-1. The last 38 minutes of the second half was a defensive struggle as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The game would then go into overtime where Buhler scored in the 4th minute of overtime to take a 2-1 win and give the Rockets a heartbreaking loss to end their season. The Rockets finished a sucessful season with a record of 10-7-1. Except for Senior Goalie Trystan Spiess, the Rockets will return the entire team for the 2020 season.

Rocket's Season Comes to an End

On Thursday the Rocket football team made the trip to Goddard for their road playoff game. They were the nine seed and Goddard was the eight seed. The Lions would end up striking first in the game as they would score on a blocked punt in the first quarter to jump ahead early. The Lions would score two more times to make the score 22-0 in the second quarter. The Rockets would finally score on a hook and ladder play involving Spencer Nolan and Koby Campbell to make the score 22-7 going into halftime. In the second half the Rocket’s defense would step up multiple times, forcing multiple turnovers. However, the Rockets were never able to score and Goddard took advantage. Goddard would score another touchdown and kick a field goal to make the score 32-7. The Rockets would score one more time in the game off of a touchdown run from Conner Williamson. The Lions would end up beating the Rockets 32-14 ending the Rocket’s season. The Rockets ended the season at 3-6, a two win improvement from last year.
