Girls Dominate AVCTL

Last Thursday the cross-country team had their AVCTL league meet in Mulvane. The boys varsity took 4th as a team with John Adamson coming in 13th place with a time of 19:20.48, Sam Lovell in 15th running a 19:44.34, McCoy Korte running a 21:54.87, Korbin woods in 33rd with a 21:58.67, Kaleb Ross coming in 34th with a time of 22:03.57, in 36th Jonah Lemasters ran 22:23.38, and a hair behind Jonah was Carter Wagner finishing 37th with a time of 22:23.54. The Girls took 1st as a team and had all 7 runners in the top 8 of the Meet. Coming in 2nd for the girls was Kyrsten Lucent with a time of 21:40.96, Kate Dare coming in 3rd with a 22:02.51, Alexa Marshall coming in 4th with a time of 22:06.22, Savannah Crawford finishing 5th running a time of 22:09.28, Elliot Herod in 6th running 22:17.52, Haley Murray finishing 7th with a time of 22:49.02, and coming in 8th was Kimber Lovell who ran a time of 23:06.99. Their Regional meet will be Saturday, October 23rd.

Rockets Defeat Vikings

The Rockets faced off against the Winfield Vikings Friday night in Winfield. Online sites had the Vikings favored to win 21-14 before the game.  The Rockets came out strong driving down to the 20 before a fumble turning the ball over.  The defense came out strong and stopped the Vikings drive.  The Rockets, mad about the turnover, drove the ball down to the 49-yard line when Boeden Whitted took a 51-yard run to get the first touchdown with the extra point good by Teagan Cobb.  The Vikings scored in the 2nd quarter but the kick was no good putting the Rockets up 7-6.  The Rockets wanted to finish the half with a touchdown; quarterback Lane Gardner kept the ball for a 3-yard touchdown and the kick was good by Teagan Cobb putting the Rockets up 14-6 at halftime.  The last touchdown was scored by the Vikings in the 3rd quarter; they went for the 2-point conversion but it was no good. No one scored the rest of the game and the Rockets earned the 14-12 victory over the Vikings.  The Rockets will host Independence this Friday on Senior Night.

Rockets Take 4th

Last Saturday the Rockets had a tournament in Clearwater. In their pool of the tournament it was Rose Hill, Trinity Academy, Wellington, and Wichita North; The Rockets took second in their pool. For their first game of pool play they played against Wichita North; in the first set of the game the Rockets won 25-15 and in the second set of the game they won again 25-10. For the Rockets second game they played Wellington; in the first set the Rockets won 25-15 and in the second set the Rockets won again 25-16. For the Rockets third and final game of pool play they faced off against the Trinity Academy Knights. In the first set of the game the Rockets lost 25-5 and in the second set the Rockets lost 25-16. By finishing in second place in their pool, the Lady Rockets qualified for bracket play. For the Rockets first game of bracket play they faced the Clearwater Indians. In the first set of the game the Indians won 25-23 and in the second set they won 25-18. For the Rockets second game of bracket play and the battle for 3rd place at the tournament they played against Hesston. In the first set of the game the Rockets lost 20-25; in the second set the Rockets won 25-20; and in the third set of the game the Rockets lost 22-25. The Lady Rockets took 4th in the tournament out of 8 teams and had 2 players make the All-Tournament team: Jillian Rockley and Nolie Munn. The Lady Rockets will next play on Tuesday, October 19th at home on their senior night. They will be hosting El Dorado and Circle.

Rockets Fall Short

The boys’ soccer team faced off against Salina South Thursday night in Salina.  The game was a battle between the two teams. The Cougars got the first goal in the 9th minute and the another in the 30th minute.  The Rockets scored before half on a free kick from Teagan Cobb and a header from Scotty Carr to score. The Rockets were down 2-1 going into the half.  The Rockets came out slow going into the second half and the Cougars scored two more on the Rockets to win the game 4-1.  The Rockets will host rival Mulvane on Thursday on Senior Night.
