Wagner Wins 4A Triple Jump

The boys and girls track teams competed in the 4A State Track Meet held at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University on May 27 and 28. The teams were coming into the State Meet after superb regional meets the previous week where the boys won their regional meet and the girls placed 2nd. The boys finished the State Meet with a top ten finish by finishing in 9th place in the team standings with 29 points. Leading the way for the Rockets was senior Carter Wagner, who found himself on the medal stand twice. On Friday, Wagner won the triple jump with a jump of 44’ 6”. After receiving his gold medal for the triple jump, Wagner had plans on winning the high jump, his strongest event throughout the season. However, with his best jump being 6’ 4”, Wagner placed 2nd in the high jump at the State Meet. Earlier in the season, Wagner set the school record in the high jump with a jump of 6’ 9”. Junior Teagan Cobb also found his way onto the medal stand by placing 4th in the long jump with a distance of 21’ 5.25” and Cobb also placed 6th in the 110 Meter High Hurdles with a time of 15.40. The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Cobb, Pierce Probasco, Ben Peck, and Luke McLaughlin placed 7th with a time of 44.12. Rounding out top ten finishes for the Rockets include junior Tyler Kiser who placed 8th in the javelin with a distance of 166’ 9”. The girls team had a little more difficulty scoring points at the State Track Meet only managing to score 7.2 team points and finishing in 23rd place in the team standings. Leading the Rocket girls was sophomore Lanie Page, who placed 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 5’ 0”. Senior Jillian Rockley also had a top ten finish in the high jump as she finished 8th with a jump of 4’ 8”. Rounding out the top ten finishes for the girls was freshman Ava Markley who placed 9th in the triple jump with a distance of 33’ 4.25”.
