Rockets Soar The Bracket

The Rocket’s boys’ soccer team traveled to Goddard Saturday morning for the tournament championship game of the Goddard/Campus Tournament. Their opponent was the Class 6A Garden City Buffalos. The Rockets had accomplished a lot during the ongoing tournament, defeating both Campus and Eisenhower to make it to the finals. A continuous onslaught throughout the game led to eight shots for Rose Hill, three of which found the back of the net in the second half. The Buffalos managed to get off a total of 13 shots throughout the game with four of them going for Garden City goals. Of all performances for Rose Hill, Daylin Jantzen and Temo Luna-Berumen played very well with Jantzen putting two goals in the back of the net for Rose Hill and Luna-Berumen preventing nine shots from going in from Garden City. It was a great game to behold and one of persistence to the very end from both sides. Unfortunately, the Rockets lost a player to a serious injury. Even with all of this, the tournament was still an amazing performance from the Rockets as they advanced to finals of a difficult tournament playing three larger schools. The Rockets will travel to Mulvane on Tuesday for a matchup with the Wildcats.

In the boys 5000 Meter Run, the Rockets had one runner participate. Sam Lovell finished in 55th place with a time of 19:04.90. The Cross Country team will have their next meet on Saturday, September 17 when they travel to Circle. The first race will start at 10 am.

3A Champs Power By Rockets

The three-time defending state champion Andale Indians invaded Rocket territory on Friday bringing with them a 39-game winning streak and #1 ranking in Class 3A. The Rockets hoped to be able to slow down the Indian attack. The Rockets received the opening kickoff but their offense sputtered and they were forced to punt the ball to the Indians. The Rocket defense initially made the going a bit tough for the Indians making it look like a competitive game was in the making. However, the Indians quickly made adjustments and once the Andale offense got going it could not be stopped. Andale scored touchdowns on a 22-yard run and a 2-yard run to take a 15-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The strong Indian offensive performance continued in the second quarter as Andale added to their lead on a 48-yard run and a 45-yard pass to double their lead to 30-0. The Rocket offense then showed a bit of life with a nice drive capped by a 32-yard run by quarterback Connor Wallis to decrease the Indian lead to 30-7. However, the Indians quickly grabbed the momentum right back with an 11-yard run and two-point conversion to increase their lead to 38-7. The Rockets then helped Andale out a bit more by allowing a blocked punt that subsequently rolled out of the back of the end zone for a safety to increase the Indian lead to 40-7. The Indians tacked on an additional score late in the 2nd quarter on a 3-yard run to take a 47-7 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, the Indians struck again with a 39-yard pass to increase their lead to 54-7; the running clock run went into effect at this point. Andale added one last score in the 4th quarter but the two-point conversion failed. Andale won the game 60-7 as they won their 40th consecutive game. After playing two of the best teams in Class 3A to open the season, the Rockets will now prepare for another set of Indians to come to town when they host the Clearwater Indians on Friday. The team is working hard and looking forward to playing on Friday in an attempt to secure their first win of the season.
