Tight Match With Berean

The Rockets hosted Berean Academy on Thursday. Games with Berean are normally very close. Berean last defeated the Rockets in 2018 with a 1-0 victory. Since that time, the teams have tied 0-0 in both 2019 and 2020 followed up by a 2-0 Rocket victory in 2021. This year’s game followed the same pattern, a tough defensive battle up and down the field between both teams. The Rockets scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute on an unassisted goal by senior Andruw Weeks. From that point on, it was all defense for both teams. The Rockets managed to take 13 shots on the night while Berean took 10 shots of their own. Meanwhile Rocket Goalies Gus Cornejo-Arambula and Temo Luna - Berumen combined for five saves throughout the game. With the hard-earned 1-0 victory, the Rockets improve their record to 6-1. The Rockets will next travel to Winfield on Tuesday for a matchup with the Vikings.

Rockets Defeat #6 Garden Plain

The Rockets played their first Thursday double header this past week splitting the night with a loss to Cheney 14-25, 18-25 and a comeback, three set win against a Class 2A #6 ranked Garden Plain team 9-25, 25-20, 25-16. When asked about this week’s games Coach Mock said, “We are not always playing up to our potential, but when we do come together and play as a team, we are a fun group to watch. We played four close games this week and pulled out two wins, one of them being against a ranked Garden Plain team. We will continue to push to get better.” In the two games this past Thursday, both Dayleigh Barger and Payton Jackson led the team in kills with 12. Mandi Heinz had 20 digs on the night, getting her closer to Aspen Goetz (1078 career digs); Heinz now has 1036 during her career. The Rockets are set to play again next Tuesday at El Dorado with Clearwater.
