The Rocket football team cruised to a 36-2 victory over the Chanute Comets last Friday. The dominant performance gives the Rockets their third straight win after dropping their season opener to the Andale Indians. The Rockets' defense continues to terrorize opponents, refusing to allow a score for the last three games. They outscored the Comets’ offense 6-0, with the Rockets’ defensive score coming off a second-half pick-six by RB/LB Nick Jones.
The Rockets' defensive masterclass allowed the offense to respond in turn. They scored four touchdowns, with two rushing touchdowns coming from running back Kai Kirchhoff-Jones. Quarterback Isaac Hill threw two passing touchdowns to Remington Merlau and Jax Kohler. Hill had high praise for his running back, saying, “Our running game was strong, which helped set the tone for the whole game. My passing touchdowns wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for them not being able to stop Kai.” The Rockets hope to continue their win streak on Friday with what looks to be a tough road game against the 2-2 Augusta Orioles.
